Free NFL Picks Divisional Round Playoffs

6 January 2009

Most people say that the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs is the best round, with 4 quality matches on the weekend, I guess I better provide all 4 with my free NFL picks. Last weekend I went 2-2 in the Wild Card Round, and I'm still a bit shocked at the result of the Colts and Chargers match. This weekend in the Divisional Round there are even harder games to pick, and the common theme is that these teams all know each other well. What do my free NFL picks have in store for the Divisional Round of the playoffs?

Free Divisional Round NFL Picks

Arizona Cardinals @ Carolina Panthers - Panthers favored by 10

Do I think that the Carolina Panthers are 10 points better than the Arizona Cardinals? Well, I might. But I think the Cardinals have showed that they are a worthy team in the playoffs and aren't to be completely written off. I made that mistake last weekend with my free NFL picks and won't make it again. But the Panthers will be able to run the ball anywhere they please all afternoon and Steve Smith will be looking to make a statement as the best wide receiver on the field. The Panthers win the game at home, but take the Cardinals against the spread.

San Diego Chargers @ Pittsburgh Steelers - Steelers favored by 6

I expect this game to be higher scoring than the 11-10 result from a few months ago. The Chargers have also become a better team since then, and Ben Roethlisberger is questionable as far as his health goes. But the Steelers defense is not going to get pushed around at home and the running game will do its best to help impose its well and take pressure of Roethlisberger. Bottom line is that I think, despite how hot the Chargers are, that the Steelers are the better football team from top to bottom. Steelers win the game, but do not beat the spread.

Baltimore Ravens @ Tennessee Titans - Titans favored by 3

Talk about a physical and intense battle, this game is going to be as hard hitting as it gets. Throw all the numbers aside, I think the Ravens have a more punishing and bigger play making defense. The Titans on the other hand, have a superior ground game duo, and a veteran hand at quarterback. Everyone has overlooked the Titans all season, but I have always found them to be a solid team. I just have also thought that the Ravens were one of the most dangerous teams in the league. The Ravens win the game on the road in an upset and advance to the AFC Championship game.

Philadelphia Eagles @ New York Giants - Giants favored by 4

We saw last weekend with my free NFL picks and the point spreads, that the road teams all seemed to be favored. Well not true this weekend, as the home teams are all given the advantage. This will be an intense game between divisional opponents who know each other well. They were 1-1 during the regular season, each team getting their win against the other on the road, and at a time when they were ripe for the picking. I think with a healthy Brandon Jacobs in the lineup, and a focused group after their bye week, the Giants will be able to get into a groove offensively. Brian Westbrook always tears up the Giants, so this one, despite being a physical struggle could be high scoring. I expect the Giants to be healthy and relaxed, and avenge their earlier loss. Giants win the game and beat the spread.

Oh, how I do love the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs! Get a good spot on the couch or at the bar, and watch the games unfold. As always, use the free NFL picks wisely, cheers!
