Divisional Round Playoffs NFL Power Rankings
After Wild Card Weekend, 4 teams are down and 8 remain to be ranked here in the NFL power rankings for the Divisional Round of the playoffs. I was certainly surprised at some of the outcomes from last weekend, considering how my playoff power rankings looked last week. One of my highest ranked teams, the Indianapolis Colts, found a way to lose vs. the San Diego Chargers and my lowest ranked team, the Arizona Cardinals found a way to win. Let's see how the remaining 8 look headed in the NFL Divisional Round power rankings.
NFL Power Rankings Divisional Round Playoffs
- New York Giants - Brandon Jacobs should be rested and fully recovered, as should the offensive line. The Giants have the added motivation of playing an NFC East opponent. The last time they played the Eagles, in the Meadowlands, the Eagles won the game. I'm sure that's on the mind of the players and they will be looking for revenge come Sunday. And oh yes, they are still the defending Super Bowl Champions.
- Baltimore Ravens - The Ravens defense is a scary unit, bottom line. Even if other units give up statistically fewer points, nobody scores points, intimidates and creates turnovers like the Ravens do. Obviously a tough match this weekend, and the team that plays more physical will win.
- Carolina Panthers - The Panthers should be ready to get out there onto the field after a week off and their hot finish to the season. I can guarantee that they aren't afraid of the Cardinals offense, and I'm sure Steve Smith is out to prove a point that Fitzgerald and Boldin aren't the only marquee wide receivers in the game.
- Tennessee Titans - My only concern for the Titans is the health of their defensive line. Well, my second concern for them is having a lot of time off between meaningful games here. They will have to come with full intensity from the beginning of the game against the Ravens.
- Philadelphia Eagles - As the Eagles struggled through the first half of the season, nobody doubted the talent and personnel, something just seemed to be off about the team. Clearly they have put themselves together and they get to play a divisional opponent that they know they can beat.
- Pittsburgh Steelers - Just as with last week with my NFL playoff power rankings, the only reason the Steelers are getting ranked so lowly is that I'm unsure about the health of Ben Roethlisberger. There hasn't been much word out of Pittsburgh about it, so it will be interesting to see how he and the offense perform.
- San Diego Chargers - The Chargers just are in the heads of the Indianapolis Colts. They found a way to win a game when they were banged up and behind. Now, whether they should have had a home game considering the two team's records is another story. But a win is a win, Divisional Round here they come.
- Arizona Cardinals - It's not that the Cardinals are a bad team, and they impressed me by taking care of business against the Falcons. It's just that I still think they are the worst remaining team and they have a tough task against a physical Panthers squad this weekend.
Those are all 8 of the remaining NFL teams that are set to play in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Hope you enjoyed the playoff power rankings and get to kick back and enjoy all of the Divisional playoff games this weekend!
