Week 14 NFL Power Rankings

2 December 2008

The Week 14 NFL Power Rankings are here and I know some people have been highly anticipating them. Some teams have been back to their winning ways and others can't stay consistent. A lot of movement around the power rankings this week, so let's take a look at how the week 13 NFL games changed the power rankings for week 14. I'll tell you this, I don't think number one will be a surprise or be any different on anybody else's list, that's for sure!

Week 14 NFL Power Rankings

  1. New York Giants - 11-1 - How do you spell idiot? How about P-L-A-X-I-C-O. The Giants don't seem to worried in his absence however, not with the emergence of Dominic Hixon anyways. Can the Giants continue playing this kind of football throughout the rest of the season? As they know from last year, it's all about playing your best at the right time, not early on.
  2. Pittsburgh Steelers - 9-3 - The Steelers got a huge win against the Patriots in New England, a win that I didn't think they would get. And it was by a huge margin. The team is finding their rhythm and staying healthy, very important things as their division still isn't locked up in their favor.
  3. Tennessee Titans - 11-1 - Blowing out the Detriot Lions is almost like a prerequisite rather than a huge positive. But the team did what it needed to do to get back to the W column. They get the Browns at home next and so the winning should continue.
  4. Baltimore Ravens - 8-4 - I've been on the Baltimore bandwagon for some time, even as they lost tough early games in the beginning of the season. The Beltway Battle next weekend against the Redskins is a huge game on national television that the Ravens have to win to keep themselves at the top of the playoff hopefuls list.
  5. Atlanta Falcons - 8-4 - San Diego is the best team with the worst record in the NFL, so a win over them, is always a good thing. Especially on the road, whereas the Falcons have been enjoying the comforts of home field all season. Cool Matty Ryan, getting the job done. And those Chargers, do you think they still wish they had Michael Turner or what?
  6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 9-3 - The NFC South has emerged as the best division in the football, after the struggles of some of the NFC East teams. The Buccanneers have won four games in a row, but haven't always looked that good in doing so. At this point in the season, blowing out no hopers does matter as you start to get rolling for the playoffs. Beating the Saints is a good thing, but the NFC South teams are basically unstoppable at home anyway.
  7. Indianapolis Colts - 8-4 - The Colts keep on getting wins, and keep on moving up in the standings. Left for dead a month ago, they've won 5 straight and if the playoffs started today they would be in it. But I'm worried this version of the Colts will be a one and done playoff squad, at least depending on that match up.
  8. Carolina Panthers - 9-3 - Carolina is one of the hardest teams in the league to get a good reading on. Before their loss to the Falcons I knew they were due for a let down and it seems to have woken them up. That makes three NFC South teams in the week 14 NFL power rankings, wow.
  9. New England Patriots - 7-5 - Getting blown out at home is never a good thing. Certainly not when it's against a rival and you both are getting ready to step into the playoffs in a few weeks. That said, the Patriots would not be in the playoffs if they started today. Granted, they were a few dropped Randy Moss touchdowns from changing the entire momentum of the game before it got out of hand, but the Steelers showed up in the second half and they didn't.
  10. New York Jets - 8-4 - The Jets fell back to life after their win over the Titans. No big surprise there, and I'm not sure if I would pick this team to beat any of the other prospective playoff teams, especially on the road. The Broncos have been up and down all season and when they get rolling are very good, so it's not a season shattering loss, but a setback.

Team I would put on if the Power Rankings went to 11 - Dallas Cowboys

Suggestion to fix the BCS - Have the top three AFC West teams play the trio of Big 12 teams, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech to determine who's in and who's out.

Sharing Regret - I know how the Giants feel, bestowing a huge contract to Plaxico only to see it lose all of its value within months. Like when I bought an Ike Hillard Giants jersey and then they cut him. Or when I bought a Jeremy Shockey jersey and saw him traded the next season. That's called karma! (I think?)

There you go, my week 14 NFL power rankings, plus a few quick hit thoughts to end it off, enjoy the football folks and spread the word!

Their wins on the road in recent weeks… Tampa Bay has looked to be struggling and Carolina just lost to Atlanta.

Oops, meant just their last win on the road, as well as the home win against Carolina.
