Week 10 NFL Power Rankings

4 November 2008

Had a lot of marquee match ups over the weekend, so let's take a look at how the Power Rankings for Week 10 of the 2008 NFL season shook out. It doesn't seem like the Tennessee Titans are going to get knocked off by just anybody, as they've made it past the midway mark of the season and are still undefeated. And the New York Giants are continuing to play great football, but does a win over the ailing Dallas Cowboys put them over the top in the Week 10 NFL Power Rankings? Here we go!

Week 10 NFL Power Rankings

  1. Tennessee Titans - 8-0 - A great win for the Titans over the Packers this weekend. It was a gritty performance and they outlasted a very good team that needed a win and had the tools to get it. The running attack of Chris Johnson and Lendale White can be scary come the postseason, because they are so different to prepare for but both are so effective. Who is going to take them out?
  2. New York Giants - 7-1 - I know, they are the Super Bowl Champions. They are beating tough teams and they are playing dominating football. Shouldn't they be in the number 1 spot? Well, I've put the TItans up there at 1 and until they lose, or have a really shaky performance, I can't just downgrade them. Who could have possibly known that without Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora this defense would still be so effective?
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers - 6-2 - I predicted the Steelers would go into Fedex Field and beat the Redskins, so no surprise there. And I'm happy, consiering the correlation to the presidential voting. But that's another story! The Steelers are just really, really banged up. If they can somehow find a way to get healthy before the end of the season, well... could you imagine the intensity of a Titans-Steelers AFC Conference Championship game?
  4. Carolina Panthers - 6-2 - They have been awfully under the radar for a team that's 6-2. That's because of a few let-down performances. But it looks like the Panthers are finally playing solid football every weekend. We'll see what they have planned after they had their bye week.
  5. Washington Redskins - 6-2 - The Redskins desperately wanted to make a statement with their Monday night home game against the Steelers. And they could have. They squandered early opportunities and enabled the Steelers to gain control. But the Steelers needed to makea statement in that game as well, and a loss to them isn't such a terrible thing.
  6. Baltimore Ravens - 5-3 - The Ravens took care of business, on the road, against a favored divisional foe. They have had their ups and downs this season and what it really boils down to is whether or not Joe Flacco can maintain his presence. If he plays like a struggling rookie, this team isn't good enough to survive past it. If he plays with some veteran poise, even some of the time, this team is dangerous.
  7. New England Patriots - 5-3 - The Patriots went into Indianapolis, their biggest rival of the decade, and another AFC powerhouse that has been taken down a notch this season. They were on their last ropes, fighting to get back to .500, needing a win at home to do it, and they didn't have to play Tom Brady. This had Colts victory written all over it, so the fact that it was still a very competitive game speaks to the quality of this team, without their Golden Boy.
  8. Philadelphia Eagles - 5-3 - You just have to feel a bit for these NFC East teams. 5-3, 1st place in many other divisions, leaves you at the bottom of the division. On the other hand, if you can survive the rivalries and make it out to the playoffs, you have been battle tested almost every weekend. The Eagles at 5-3 have darkhorse written all over them, if McNabb and Westbrook both stay on the field that is.
  9. Chicago Bears - 5-3 - I know a win is a win, but some of these performances by the Bears are really frightening for a team that could and expects to play great football. First place is great, but when the Lions give you that kind of game, you need to find some way to play better.
  10. Indianapolis Colts - 4-4 - Another team that injuries have just completely derailed. But a gutsy performance against their still strong rival at home. In an absolute must win game, they found a way to win. Peyton Manning has to keep playing great, and I'm thinking that as he continues to get healthier, he will. Bob Sanders, Joseph Addai and others are returning to the lineup which is a huge boost for the team.
