Brady Quinn Debuts, Cleveland Rejoices, Browns Still Lose

7 November 2008

Brady Quinn made his highly anticipated NFL debut last night, starting for the Cleveland Browns who were playing at home against the Denver Broncos in a Thursday night game. It seems that his time on the bench payed off, he seemed to be poised and played under control. He found the endzone twice and went 23-35 with 239 yards. Not bad for a debut, and above the expectations of many of the Brady Quinn doubters out there.

Of course, those doubters were not residing in Cleveland, as the majority of Browns fans have been chomping at the bit to get to see their new quarterback take the field. However, despite jumping out to an early lead, Cleveland gave up a career night to Jay Cutler. He led his team to a late rally and threw for nearly 450 yards. And the Broncos needed every single one of them to upstage Quinn and the Browns.

It seems that in Cleveland, even joyous occasions like the excellent debut of Brady Quinn can be derailed by a loss at a home. Add it to the list of failures in a season filled with them. So much for dark horse Super Bowl contenders, 17 touchdowns for Braylon Edwards, a Pro Bowl return for Kellen Winslow, the continued success of Derek Anderson, the strengthening of a defense....and the list goes on from there!

Let's not forget, it was just last season that Derek Anderson surprised the football world and lit up scoreboards across the AFC. So after one game I don't think it's quite time to call Brady Quinn the savior of the franchise. But hope rises eternal in Cleveland, it has to.

Oh, and Browns fans, if you're already starting your search for cheap Brady Quinn jerseys, look no further.
