Week 8 NFL Power Rankings

21 October 2008

Another great weekend of NFL football in the 2008 season, so let's get to those Power Rankings for Week 8. A lot of the teams that started off the year predicted as favorites have fallen off the map (ahem, that's you Dallas Cowboys). The NFC South has blow outs every single week and the New England Patriots have shown that with or without Tom Brady, they're still a threat. Green Bay and Buffalo both made an impressive home stand and who would have thought Chicago and Minnesota would have put up nearly 100 combined points? Wow. Gotta love the NFL.

Week 8 NFL Power Rankings

  1. Tennessee Titans - 6-0 - An easy and lopside win on the road in Kansas City doesn't hurt their standings at all. The team is solid on both sides of the ball and is ready for some tougher games.
  2. Pittsburgh Steelers - 5 -1 - If this team can find a way to stay healthy and protect Ben Roethlisberger than they are a serious Super Bowl contender, especially with all of that veteran talent and leadership. Who isn't excited for Steelers/Giants this weekend?
  3. Buffalo Bills - 5-1 - I'm willing to bet that not too many people had the Bills at 5-1 and sitting on top of the AFC East. But with a win over the Chargers, they have shown that they have plans on sticking around. An upcoming game against the Patriots should help prove that.
  4. New York Giants - 5-1 - I can't put the G-Men in the top three after their awful showing in Cleveland a few games ago. But the defense can be swarming and Eli Manning has shown that the end of last season was not a fluke. They just can't suffer letdowns like that.
  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 5-2 - Things are just fine down in Tampa when Jeff Garcia is steering the ship. I bet Gruden wish they could've all just gotten along at the start of the season.
  6. Carolina Panthers - 5-2 - Will somebody please tell me why this team can't play like that every weekend? The Panthers can be blown out in the division and then blow out a division rival in back to back weeks as if it's just normal business. Jonathan Stewart continues to impress me.
  7. New England Patriots - 4-2 - What a performance last night at home against the Denver Broncos. Some vintage Patriots against a team that has done well against them, and of course without that guy that Gisele is hanging out with.
  8. Washington Redskins - 5-2 - Struggling with the Browns at home and being lucky to win doesn't get them too much credit. Neither does that loss to the Rams a few weeks ago. But a win is a win, and Jason Campbell has been one of the stories of the season at the midway mark.
  9. Chicago Bears - 4-3 - Giving up 41 points at home to the Minnesota Vikings really isn't a good thing. But, just like the Redskins above them in the week 8 power rankings, the Bears got a win they needed to get. If Kyle Orton can play like this, (and we knew he could win, because he won with the Bears before) why did the Bears foolishly play Rex Grossman for so long?
  10. Jacksonville Jaguars - 3-3 - The Jaguars have been victim to a tough schedule, some hard losses and a handful of injuries. But the easy part of the schedule lies ahead. Assuming they cruise through that for a few weeks, they'll be in line for a Wild Card spot come playoffs time.

Well, the AFC has some of the strongest teams on top of the list. But the NFC has managed to squeak 5 teams into there, so they're both even all together. There are the week 8 power rankings, enjoy and spread the word.
