Free NFL Picks Week 7

15 October 2008

Welcome back to my weekly free NFL picks. Week 7 of the NFL season is coming up this weekend and of course there are a lot of big games coming up. I was 2-2 with my four free NFL picks last week. I'll do better this time though.

You know how this works... some people pick every single NFL game and boast about their record. Well I don't think that pickng the Pittsburgh-Cincinatti game or Tennessee-Kansas City game deserves any credit! That's why in my weekly free NFL picks I only pick a handful of the hardest matches.

This week I'll be picking five games with my free NFL picks. Here we go.

San Diego at Buffalo - Even

This is a really tough game to call between two teams that I really like. This game doesn't even have a spread, it's an even pick 'em game. I don't shy from the tough ones in my free NFL picks. Anyway, San Diego has been all over the place this season. A couple of bad breaks set them back, but their dominant win over the Patriots last weekend should help them right the ship. If this was in December at Buffalo I'd pick the Bills. But it's October so I'll take the Chargers on the road.

New Orleans at Carolina - Carolina favored by 3

A couple more teams who have been all over the place this season. Trying to get a read on either of these teams has been extremely difficult. Reggie Bush has actually impressed me the last few weeks with his playmaking, and the Panthers really disappointed me in their showing in Tampa Bay. This is a big divisional game, and in an unpredictable division I expect it to stay that way. That's why I'm taking the Saints on the road in an upset.

Denver at New England - Patriots favored by 3

Both teams are coming off a loss and so both need a win to get their acts together. The Patriots definitely need this one more than the Broncos do. But this isn't the same Broncos squad that the Patriots leveled in the playoffs for years, and this definitely isn't the same Patriots team either. Jay Cutler has really matured this season and is commanding a great offense, an offense that I expect to exploit an old New England defense. And I don't see Matt Cassel as being able to exploit the Broncos defense as much, even if the Broncos defense is mighty suspect. The upsets continue in my free NFL picks, I take the Broncos on the road!

Baltimore at Miami - Dolphins favored by 3

I'm really not trying to be this obvious, but here in my free NFL picks we have another tough to call game with the home team favored by 3. And what I have done in the two picks ahead of this one? Picked the road team to win! Guess what, I'm doing the same thing here but it has nothing to do with being consistent in my strategy. The Ravens really put on an awful performance against the Colts this past weekend. The difference between last week and this week though will be that the Colts are a top team that needed to save their season and win a game in their new stadium, and the Dolphins are starting to believe too much of their own magic. The Ravens punishing defense puts an end to the Ronnie Brown direct snap mojo and Flacco avoids costly mistakes. Ravens on the road!

Minnesota at Chicago - Bears favored by 3

Eek, a fourth straight game here in my weekly free NFL picks that has the home team favored by 3 points. I told you I don't take the easy way out! So far I've picked all road teams and all upsets, so where do I stand on this one? Well, the Vikings offense has been miserable, and playing the Bears in Chicago is no time to try to get that all sorted out. Meanwhile the Bears have a solid running game with Matt Forte and Kyle Orton, who I always liked (at least more than Rex Grossman), dating back to his first stint at starter, has been respectable at quarterback. This is a statement game in the division and the Bears are going to assert themselves in a major way. The Bears at home, and they beat the 3 point spread.

Enjoy the weekly free NFL picks and pass them on to your friends!
